August 23, 2015 - Good-Bye Summer Vacation!

We have really enjoyed our last week of Summer Vacation.  Blake starts school tomorrow, and all the excitement that comes with that.

This past week was very smoky outside due to all the wild fires burning in the northwest, so other than some time in the garden and with the chickens, it was an "inside" sort of week.  Video games it was!

We started Super Mario 3D world on WiiU, and enjoyed a daily session of serious gaming.  Garrett joined us a couple of times, and it was grade-A hilarious!  Let me just say, the phrase of the week was..."Let me get the cat suit!"  More pronounced kad-zoooot.  lol  It was fun, and oh so funny.

My tomatoes are coming in nice and strong.  One night Blake asked me..."What is for dinner mom?" My response..."Tomatoes."  It is a good thing we love tomatoes!  This first year of serious gardening has gone very well for me.  Tomatoes and summer squash have been a smashing success.  Next year I want a huge variety of all my favorite stuff.  I am excited to plan my fall garden too.

My henny pennys are doing well.  Thelma seems to be just about healed from whatever her injury was.  She still has a slight limp, but is getting around much better.  We are still waiting on eggs though.  Garrett has decided that he has to be the one who discovers the first egg.  I think that would be awesome.  I had to laugh the other day because unbeknownst to him I had placed a fake egg in the nesting box so the girls would know where I want them to lay their eggs.  This fake egg looks and feels very real.  When Garrett discovered it, he got so excited!  lol

Today Casey and his girlfriend Brianna took Blake back-to-school shopping.  They bought him a nice Vans backpack. and a very cool hoodie.  "Thank you Casey!"  I have the best sons on the planet.  :)

My week in photos...

Day one...let the gaming commence!
 Smoky skies.
 Fluffy chicken butts...my favorite thing.

Enjoying an evening on my porch swing.
 Miss Thelma.
Smoky sunrise.  The foothills have vanished behind a veil of smoke.
 My beautiful tomatoes.

Blake enjoying some Supra time.

Last day of summer vacation.  We spent the evening in the garden picking dem 'maters.  :)
It is always exciting to go outside and see all these lovely red treasures, hanging in a sea of green leaves. I love gardening!

For dinner I baked some summer squash from the garden, made some macaroni and cheese, chipotle sausage, and added fresh tomatoes and cucumber also from the garden.  It was delicious!

May the new chapter commence!  We are ready.  :)

Until next time...enjoy life, and be kind to one another.

Peace.
